Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, the minority affairs minister said today announcing the decision taken by the government that there will be no subsidy for the Haj from this year.
“This is part of our policy to empower minorities with dignity and without appeasement,” Naqvi told reporters and cited a host of measures for the welfare of minorities.
He also said that the fund will be utilised for the development of minorities and even in educating girl child.
It has also been assumed that approx 1.5 lakh people will be taking the pilgrime this year to the Haj from India.
“A constitutional bench of the Supreme Court had, during the Congress regime in 2012, directed that the Haj subsidy be done away with. Hence, in the new policy, as per the recommendations of a committee, we have decided to do away with the Haj subsidy gradually,” he had also mentioned.
