The long-standing feud between Prasar Bharti Chairman, A. Surya Prakash and I&B ministry concluded with the tweet by S. S. Vempati clearing the status of funds allocation to the public broadcaster. Mr. Vempati refuted the allegation Mr. Prakash by stating that a sum of Rs 208 crore was released towards payment of Prasar Bharati staff by the ministry.

Online news portal, The Wire reported on the story first when Mr. A Surya Prakash, Chairman of Prasar Bharti divulged on the use of Contingecy funds used by the broadcasting body to pay salaries for January and February to its staff because the I&B ministry did not release funds over differences between the chiefs of the two agencies.

S.S. Vempati, C.E.O of Prasar Bharti called this whole event of delayed salary disbursal an ‘attempt to create panic.’ Using his personal Twitter handle he shared:“noticed reports in sections of media on non-disbursal of salaries to DD & AIR staff. Rs 208 cr towards salaries were released on the 28th Feb 2018. Attempts to create panic malafide. PB (Prasar Bharati) has so far received Rs 1989 crores from MIB (Ministry of Information and Broadcasting) as grants-in-aid for salaries during FY2017-18.”

Clearing the air on the stand-off, I&B ministry stated that Prasar Bharti did not sign an MoU with the ministry, which is required of autonomous bodies receiving grants-in-aid by the government.
