After huge social media outrage over incidents of gang rape in Unnao, Kathua it seems that Indian people haven’t learnt anything from their misdeeds. This time around, Surat Police have disclosed an incident where a 11 eleven year old girl had been raped, tortured and strangled to death. There were 86 injury marks on the body, which highlights the horrific experience the girl went through before being killed by the ‘socially inhuman vultures’. The dead body was found 10 days ago under the bushes near a cricket stadium in Pandesera area of Surat. The autopsy report also showed that there were severe injuries to the private parts of the girl. As of now, the Surat Police are yet to find the identity of the girl and the culprits behind the barbaric incident.

The Surat Police is facing stiff criticism from all corners of the society for their inability to find the identity of the girl and nab the offenders. In view of this the Surat Commissioner Satish Sharma has said, “We will widen our probe to trace the perpetrators of the crime. All residential colonies and societies near the crime spot would be checked again to get clues. We will scan CCTV footages of nearby places.”

There is no denying the fact that Surat being PM Narendra Modi’s home state Gujarat and BJP being at the helm of the state government, there is added pressure on the Surat Police. The opposition parties are already pinpointing the BJP Government in Gujarat. There is indeed a possibility that the girl may have been raped, tortured and killed elsewhere. As of now, an FIR has been lodged under Sections 302 (murder), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 376 (rape) of the IPC and under POSCO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act) against unidentified persons. Barring this incident, there were also reports of incidents of rape in Noida, Patna and Balasore, highlighting the fact that India needs to step ahead with death sentence against rapists.
