Whenever any political party becomes bigger and is in power, many party members aspire to make the most of the situation. Often it becomes difficult for some of them to clinch the coveted and some are always there who in spite of their weaknesses and inabilities, aspire for media limelight. The story of Yashwant Sinha, Shatrughan Sinha and Pravin Togadia isn’t very different either. Three of them come from diverse social and political backgrounds. Three of them have taken an anti-Modi stand and supporters of the saffron outfit are amused to see such hardcore supporters opposing in such a manner.
There is another big similarity among the three. All of them were so called pillars for BJP in the Atal Vajpayee era. Yashwant Sinha, the former minister of Finance of India, is extremely agitated with PM Modi now and has even went on to say that ‘situation created by Modi government worse than emergency’. What happened in between? The old guards of BJP like him didn’t get prized possessions like Governor’s post and thus somehow they have lost the plot in the national plot. Same goes for Shatrughan Sinha whose ‘Khamos’ mood didn’t go well with Bihar BJP and his political ambitions didn’t get much thrust. As Nitish Kumar has paired with BJP, Shatrughan Sinha doesn’t see himself to be a future Chief Ministerial candidate in the state. The case of Pravin Togadia is interesting to say the least. After Babri Mosque demolition, he championed the Hindu cause, being blessed by the RSS leaders and BJO made huge political profit from resulting polarization. But in the present era, when BJP is solely promoting Narendra Modi and Yogi Adityanath, Pravin Togadia has lost his mojo in the political front. His desperate attempts within the party too didn’t bring any benefit for him.
Let’s not forget the fact that three of them are not typical larger than life public figures and are politically much subdued than others. Even if they decide to join Congress, chances of making huge uproar are minimal. No doubt, BJP is always looking at its unique Hindu branding and open agitation from political stalwarts isn’t expected. The new brand of Politics by Narendra Modi and Amit Shah has given BJP much respite from the old theorists like these three.
