The ongoing Cauvery water dispute has ultimately compelled the BCCI to shift home matches of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to Pune. This is indeed a sad and disheartening news for all CSK fans as they were gearing back to support the team after two years of compulsory suspension after match fixing saga. This year, CSK has played only one match in Chennai and that was in a winning cause against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Surprisingly, the stands were having few empty seats which is rare from IPL perspective. IPL Chairman Rajeev Shukla confirmed today, “The matches had to be shifted out of Chennai as police had said that they were unable to provide security in the prevailing situation. CSK is not averse shifting base to Pune.” Although BCCI shortlisted four cities namely Pune, Visakhapatnam, Thiruvananthapuram and Rajkot to host the matches, CSK Captain MS Dhoni chose Pune as it is well connected and he has experience with the working conditions considering his prior stint with the Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS).
No doubt, it is a huge shame for the game as the gentleman’s game has lost to the political megalomaniac bullies. Both the political parties namely Naam Tamilar Katchi and Thamizhaga Vazhvurimal created nuisance and showed utter disrespect to the cricket crazy fans of the state who went ga ga to see Dhoni & Co after a brief hiatus of two years. The AIADMK state government is to be blamed also for letting the local political outfits to carry on such shameful illogical vendetta. The Cauvery water dispute is not something which is pretty new but the inability of the state government to ensure smooth law and order situation in the state is embarrassing to say the least. The OPS-EPS government has been ineffective on certain matters right from the beginning and the relocation of the game from Chennai will definitely hurt the local sentiments.
At present, it looks like that the current issue of shifting CSK base to Pune will definitely hit the IPL glamour. The decision is also extremely unfair to the local sentiments. Such a decision to relocate the matches is going to make them supporters very upset and it remains to be. See whether this will continue even in the next few years.
