For the last few weeks, the UP government has been facing stiff criticism from various quarters of the society. Not only it’s a case of typical law and order situation but also a moral stance especially on the Unnao rape case where the rape victim’s father was humiliated by local police and died in the custody which was extremely unwanted. Questions even arose whether Yogi Adityanath at all has command over the daily state of affairs or not. Anyhow, the massive outrage over Unnao and Kathua cases have been a wakeup call to BJP. The UP government was pinpointed for trying to protect BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, which is uncharacteristic of a person like Yogi Adityanath.
In his typical methodical approach, in a specific release Yogi Adityanath mentioned, “It is necessary that rapists get strict punishment. We are going to send a letter to the Centre to make necessary amendments to award capital punishment to rapists.” No doubt, Yogi Adityanath as a person is a hard hitting one who doesn’t mind being strict and take strong actions against the culprits even if they belong to his own party. Thus the Unnao rape incident has truly given him the opportunity to practice Raj dharma in the state. He is absolutely against crime against women and also the incumbent law and order situation in the state. Thus he has recently remarked, “From beat constable to the Samajwadi Party all should be made accountable ane answerable. The senior officials should keep an eye and ensure immediate action against those found guilty of laxity. The police should also do foot patrolling and establish a dialogue with people. Those having dubious past should not be made SHOs.”
Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections scheduled next year, BJP is definitely looking to improve its brand image. They are definitely expecting good lead from UP and thus Yogi Adityanath has got ample responsibility to assure such. Thus it comes as no surprise that the state government in UP has proposed death sentence for rapists.
